On Lake Allatoona, we mix it up to keep the fish guessing. For bass, we might start the day throwing topwater lures around boat docks and shoreline structure. As the sun gets higher, we'll switch to deep-diving crankbaits or drop-shot rigs to target fish holding on underwater points and ledges. Crappie fishing is a whole different ballgame - we'll use light tackle and small jigs, often fishing around brush piles or under bridges. And if we're after those hard-fighting stripers, get ready for some trolling action with live bait or big artificial lures. We've always got a few tricks up our sleeve, like using our fish finder to locate schools or employing some good old-fashioned local knowledge to put you on the bite. No matter what technique we're using, we'll make sure you're comfortable and catching fish all day long.
"The absolute best fishing on lake Allatoona I have ever had. Joseph was an amazing captain, and we'll definitely be going back with him again." - Jack
"Joseph is the best guide in Georgia! Hands down. He's so knowledgeable about the different fish and the lakes in general. We went out on Lake Allatoona and I caught striper, spotted bass and lots of catfish. He can literally bait and attract any fish, not just one type. He's also hilarious and personable. I had a great time & will be booking again very soon!" - Erica
"We had a great day fishing with Capt. Joseph, he worked very hard to put us on some fish! I knew the bite would be slow due to season and weather recently, but he made sure we got a shot at a bit of everything! To top it off he stayed on the water with us past our limit so I could check out some gar, which he knew I really wanted to see. All around great conversation as well. 10/10" - Ash
Spotted Bass: These feisty fighters are the bread and butter of Lake Allatoona fishing. Known locally as "spots," these bass are aggressive and will hit a variety of lures. They typically range from 1-3 pounds, but don't be surprised if you hook into a 4 or 5-pounder! Spots love to hang around rocky points, submerged timber, and along the many boat docks that line the lake. They're active year-round, but spring and fall tend to be prime time for big catches. The best part about spotted bass? They fight like fish twice their size, making for an exciting battle every time.
Crappie: If you're looking for a fish that's both fun to catch and delicious to eat, crappie is your target. These pan-sized fish travel in schools, so when you find one, you've often found a bunch. In Lake Allatoona, crappie typically run from 8-12 inches, with some slabs pushing 14 inches or more. Spring is the peak season when they move into shallow water to spawn, but savvy anglers can find them year-round. We'll use light tackle and small jigs or minnows to entice these tasty fish. The thrill of watching your bobber disappear as a crappie takes the bait never gets old!
Striped Bass: Hold onto your rod, because hooking into one of Lake Allatoona's stripers is like being tied to a freight train! These powerful fish can grow to over 20 pounds in the lake, providing anglers with a true test of skill and strength. Stripers are open-water predators, often found chasing schools of shad in the main lake channels. We'll use a variety of techniques to target them, from trolling with live bait to casting big topwater lures. The best striper fishing usually happens in the cooler months, from fall through spring, when these hard-fighting fish are most active. Landing a big striper is a memory you'll cherish long after the trip is over.
Alright, folks, let's cut to the chase - if you're itching to get out on Lake Allatoona and experience some of the best fishing Georgia has to offer, it's time to lock in your trip. I’m biased of course. But I am amazed at the knowledge and skill Joseph has as an angler and instructor. He knows WHERE the fish bite is best, he knows WHAT to use to catch different kinds of fish, and he knows HOW to get those fish on the hook and into the boat! It’s always an adventure!

Crappie are a blast to catch and make for some tasty table fare. These silvery panfish usually run 8-12 inches and under a pound, but bigger ones aren't uncommon. You'll find them schooling around brush piles, fallen trees, and dock pilings in 5-15 feet of water. Spring is prime time when they move shallow to spawn, but fall can be hot too as they fatten up for winter. Folks love crappie fishing because it's laid-back, great for kids, and you can catch a bunch. Their light bite and paper-thin mouths make for a fun challenge. To fill a stringer, try vertically jigging small minnows or soft plastics near cover. Here's a local secret: on sunny days, work the shady sides of structure where crappie like to hide. Light line and a sensitive rod tip are key to detecting those subtle bites.
Spotted Bass are aggressive fighters that'll give you a run for your money. They typically range from 1-4 pounds but can reach up to 10 in Lake Allatoona. Look for them around rocky points, submerged timber, and drop-offs in 10-25 feet of water. They're active year-round, but spring and fall are prime times when they're feeding heavily. Anglers love targeting Spots for their hard-hitting strikes and acrobatic jumps. They're also excellent eating fish with firm, white meat. To up your odds, try slow-rolling a spinnerbait along rocky banks or working a Carolina-rigged lizard through brush piles. One local tip: when the bite's tough, downsize your lures and go with natural colors like green pumpkin or watermelon. These fish have keen eyesight, so stealth and finesse can make all the difference.
Striped Bass are hard-fighting monsters that'll test your gear and your arms. In Lake Allatoona, they average 5-15 pounds but can top 30. These open-water predators roam the main lake, following bait schools. Look for them near points, humps, and creek mouths in 15-40 feet of water. Spring and fall are prime, with topwater action at dawn and dusk. Anglers love Stripers for their powerful runs and impressive size. They're also excellent eating, with firm, white flesh. To hook into one, try trolling large crankbaits or live-lining shad. A local tip: watch for diving birds – they'll often lead you right to feeding Stripers. When you find them, get ready for some serious rod-bending action. Just be sure to release the big ones to keep the population healthy for years to come.
